What are therapeutic biological products?

A biological product is a substance derived from a living organism and used for the prevention or treatment of disease. Biologicals are usually too complex for chemical synthesis by a laboratory. These products include antitoxins, bacterial and viral vaccines, blood products and hormone extracts.

Followings are the therapeutic biological products –

• Monoclonal antibodies for in-vivo use
• Cytokines, growth factors, enzymes, immunomodulators; and thrombolytics
• Proteins intended for therapeutic use that are extracted from animals or microorganisms, including recombinant versions of these products (except clotting factors)
• Other non-vaccine therapeutic immunotherapies
