Sanofi India announces sale of its Ankleshwar facility to Zentiva
Sanofi India Ltd announced sale of its manufacturing facility at Ankleshwar in Gujarat to Zentiva Pvt Ltd. Incorporated in May 1956 under the name Hoechst Fedco Pharma Private Limited, Sanofi India Limited is one of the entities through which Sanofi operates in India. The company has two manufacturing facilities, including Ankleshwar, Gujarat (chemistry and pharmaceuticals) and Verna, Goa (pharmaceuticals). The company also manufactures its products through third party manufacturers for marketing in India.
“Sanofi’s long-term strategy is to focus on manufacturing Sanofi branded products. Given that the two companies share similar values and commitment towards serving patients and their employees, the board approved transaction in the long-term interest of all stakeholders.” informed Rajaram Narayanan, managing director, Sanofi India Limited.
In 2018, Zentiva, which was Sanofi’s European generics business was sold to Advent International as part of a global transaction.
The Ankleshwar unit is Sanofi India’s oldest manufacturing facility where brands like Combiflam, Allegra and Amaryl are made. The production of these iconic brands will be moved to the company’s Goa site and to the external manufacturing sites as well.Sanofi’s Ankleshwar site manufactures more than 6 billion tablets annually.
